Genre : Fashion

Describing the book

Famous French fashion designers are the main characters of this book. The book is about them and the history of clothing design in France. This book’s message is 'fashion is always interesting.'

Responding to the book

This book is very interesting and I learned some unusual and special designs from it. I got some ideas about the designers after reading the book. However, I haven't changed my lifestyle because of this book. I think all designers are worth attention, but I really like Coco Chanel. She’s died in 1971. Many people still love her designs. Her designs are forever.

The Fugitive

Evan (Motong) Zhang

Last Friday, I read the novel The Fugitive. The story was very famous in 1993. The novel and a movie are adaptations from a very famous real story. The film stars are Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones. The movie review is : "A murdered wife. A one-armed man. An obsessed detective."

The novel is by J.M.Dillard. It's blurb says: " Doctor Kimble's wife was killed. The policemen think Kimble did it and he is sent to prison. But Kimble escaps from the police and his search for the man with one arm begins. Kimble knows he has to work alone. He needs a friend, but it could be dangerous to ask for help"

I am very fond of the novel. I like film tie-ins. The story is extraordinary so I really like this novel.

Icarus

Tomoe Watanabe

Author: Caroline Laidlaw
Genre: Myth.
Started: 23rd May
Finished: 25th May

The book is set more than 3,000 years ago in Athens. The main characters are Icarus and his father Daedalus. They make wings and fly away. This is a Greek myth. I think the book's message is to follow a person's advice.

This book teaches 'Don't get carried away.' Reading this book changed my attitude. I will pay attention to other people. I think I should be prudent & change my lifestyle. I think the best thing is the book gives advice to the man of today and the worst is Icarus's silly act. I rate this book as good because I like myths, but it is a little long-winded. The English level I rate as about right.
If you are interested in this book, read it.

Aladdin and the Lamp

Maggie (Jianmei) Cao

Author: Judith Dean
When Read: 2010.5.21 - 2010.5.24

Long long ago, there was a young boy in China. His name was Aladdin. He lived with his mother. They were very poor.

One day an old man asked Aladdin to help him find a magic lamp . Aladdin went down into the cave to find the magic lamp. The bad old man just wanted the lamp, but Aladdin is a clever boy and he said "let me out first." The bad old man didn't help Aladdin and he shut Aladdin in the cave. In the cave Aladdin knew this lamp had magic powers. He used the lamp to come back home and become rich and he married a Emperop's daughter.

The bad old man wanted the lamp, and one day when Aladdin was not at home the bad old man beguiled the lamp off Aladdin's wife , and Aladdin's castle disappeared. Aladdin was very angry, and he used the big green genie to find his castle and he caught the bad old man. Later Aladdin, his wife and his mother lived happily .

This story tells us 'Believe oneself. That makes for a wise man.'

Streets of London

Mark (Meng) Cui

Author: Derek Strange
Date Started: 21st May
Date Finished: 24th May

Tina is the main character in this story. So, what happens? Tina has no work and no home. She finds a new boyfriend Jimmy. A man helps her. Later, she has enough money for a house. She helps other girls. From then, she does not work without a house of girls. The house is a rich life experience for her. The theme is 'friends are important.'

I think this is a good book . I learnt friends are important. I am going to change my lifestyle because of reading this book. The best thing about the book is that it shows 'friends are important.' The worst is that it shows 'society is cruel.' This is a good book because it is very easy. I would recommend other students read this book.
